IIM Jammu has unveiled plans to start an off-campus in the newly established Union Territory of Ladakh. On Tuesday, April 29, a delegation from IIM Jammu met the Lt Governor of Ladakh RK Mathur and the Chairman/ CEC of LAHDC Leh, Tashi Gyalson to discuss the plan to open off-campus.

The delegation was led by Prof BS Sahay, the Director of IIM Jammu with the purpose of informing the chairman and the Lt. Governors about the courses at the institute.
Dr. Pankaj Aggarwal, Associate Professor, and Chairperson of Executive Education at IIM Jammu, and Dr. Prateek Jain, Associate Professor at IIM Jammu were also part of the delegation.
After the successful conclusion of the discussion, Prof Sahay said, "IIM Jammu being an Institute of National Importance can significantly contribute to providing counseling, training, and handholding support to the Ladakhi youth for setting up MSME units in the primary sector for income generation."
Along with the traditional courses at IIM Jammu, the delegation also informed the Lt Governor about the new courses, like the new dual degree B.Tech & MBA, introduced in collaboration with IIT Jammu.
IIM Jammu has also introduced an MBA in Hospital Administration and Healthcare Management in collaboration with AIIMS Jammu. Finally, another new course- "Happiness Programme-Anandam" which has caught the attention of everyone, was discussed during the meeting.
Appreciating the idea, the Lt. Governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh R.K. Mathur said, "I appreciate IIM Jammu's interest in having an off-campus at Ladakh and will in turn suggest a wholesome programme tailored to the needs of Ladakh and its youth that will enable new entrepreneurs to turn economic opportunities into real income."

The discussion with the Chairman of the Hill Council of Ladakh also proved productive, as the delegation discussed a proposal to take initiatives across multiple domains.
The Chairman, Tashi Gyalson, was pleased with the proposal laid down by the delegation from IIM Jammu and expressed concern over students migrating from Ladakh to different cities to study in professional institutes.
"I instead propose to have such institutes in the UT of Ladakh that would overcome such challenges and help youth to enhance and develop professional and entrepreneurship skills", Gyalson said.
