Job Roles for Freshers at L&T

L&T recruits freshers across three major job profiles, as mentioned in the table below:

Profile/ Title Description
Graduate Engineer Trainees (GETs) These roles are for fresh graduates with a degree in engineering. The roles entail a crucible of challenging assignments integral to molding the fresh talent into future leaders.
Post-graduate Engineer Trainees (PGETs) These roles play a crucial role across segments and functions of L&T, spanning  R&D, Design, Process Development, etc. The exact role/ profile these trainees get is in congruence with their area of specialization at the post-grad level.
Junior Engineer Trainees (JETs)/ Diploma Engineer Trainees (DETs) L&T hires engineering diploma holders across its businesses for these roles. 

While these roles are the primary way of getting a job at L&T for freshers, there are many openings for those with some experience. These roles include SDE, civil engineers, engineer manager, system engineer, field engineer, auxiliary engineer, etc.

L&T Recruitment Process - Eligibility Criteria

The complete eligibility criteria for the L&T recruitment process are as follows:

  • Minimum 65% aggregate in B.Tech/ BE/ BCA/ M.Tech/ MCA/ or an equivalent diploma in relevant fields. 
  • Minimum 60% aggregate in 10th and 12th standards.
  • No backlogs at the time of application, and no gap years between the 10th and 12th.

L&T Application Process

There are three ways of applying for a job at L&T, which are:

  1. Direct Application- Visit the official portal of the multinational company and apply for job openings directly.
  2. Hiring/ Coding Challenges- L&T, like many other companies, organizes competitions to source, assess and hire top talent nationwide. Participating in these challenges can be a way to get the opportunity to work at L&T. 
  3. On-Campus L&T Placement Drive- The company visits multiple universities/ institutions to carry on the campus recruitment process. This is one of the primary processes of recruitment for freshers. All eligible students enrolled there can take part in the process.

L&T Recruitment Process 2024: Rounds

The L&T selection process is split into four major parts. In this section, we will discuss these rounds and what they entail in detail. But before that, let's take a look at the infographic below for an overview of the same.

Round 1: Online Test

The online assessment is the first round of the L&T recruitment process. It is a mix of multiple topics and tries to assess the candidates across multiple parameters. The structure of the online recruitment exam is given in the table below:

Quantitative aptitude
(10-15 MCQs)

Algebra, time & work, arithmetic, time, speed & distance, profit & loss, percentages, geometry, etc.

English
(10-20 MCQs)

Phrase replacement, fill-in-the-blanks, error spotting, phrases/ idioms, jumbles, antonyms/ synonyms, sentence completion, comprehension, statement conclusion/argument, grammar, vocabulary, etc.

Logical Reasoning
(10-15 MCQs)

Puzzles, seating arrangement, syllogism, arrangement/ pattern, analogy, coding/ decoding, relations, inequalities, input/ output, cause & effect, etc. topics in logical reasoning. 

Technical Aptitude
(40-60 questions)

This section includes questions relating to the candidate's technical background and other general technical topics.

Technical Core
(10-15 questions)

This section consists of domain-specific questions to assess the candidate's technical core knowledge. 

This test is the preliminary recruitment stage where the hiring manager is looking to assess the basic problem-solving and time management ability of candidates. The overall duration of the test round varies between 90-120 minutes.

Note that for candidates who go the coding/ hiring challenges route, the competition counts as the written assessment and they move directly to the interview process which consists of technical and HR interviews. 

Round 2: Technical Interview

The candidates who clear the written assessment move to the interview stage which consists of two rounds of interviews. The first is the technical interview wherein the interviewer will discuss past experiences and projects so prepare accordingly. They will also ask questions to test technical knowledge and domain expertise in reference to the job profile for example core coding questions for software engineer profiles. Some topics covered for this profile are OOP properties, programming languages, web development, data structures, algorithms, operating systems, DBMS, etc. 

You can get an idea about the topics from the job description. The duration for this round will be 30-40 minutes and the level of difficulty will be medium to hard. It is important to prepare well for this personal interview round.

Round 3: HR Interview

The candidates who clear the technical interview round will move to the next stage of the L&T recruitment process. That is the HR interview round where the intent of the interviewer is to assess how well the candidate fits the company culture. You will mostly be asked non-technical questions regarding your strengths, flaws, information listed in your resume, and some company-specific questions. The duration for this round is 15-25 minutes.

Round 4: Medical Examination

After you clear the three previous rounds of the L&T recruitment process, you move to the final stage to complete the selection process. If you reach this stage, you will most likely get a job offer and this exam will be a formality of sorts. The tests they conduct in this round include a blood test, urine test, ECG, eyesight test, and a test for color blindness.
