This IIM-C Alumni Left His Job And Started An Agri-Tech Startup That Will Return INR 125 Cr Per Month By 2023!
Being one of the top management institutes in the country, the Indian Institute of Management is known for its outstanding students who after leaving IIM establish themselves in one of the top companies across the globe, or start their own successful businesses.
Such is the story of Sashank Singh, an IIM passout, who left his job at a well-known Multinational Corporation with a salary of lakhs every month to launch his own startup, which is now estimated to have a turnover of INR 125 Cr per month by the end of the year!
Jobs Could Not Satisfy Him, So He Became His Own Boss!
A job in top companies with salaries worth lakhs is a dream for every student. No matter which field students study in, they hope to achieve a stable job with a steady income. Sashank got jobs in not one but 3 companies, Uber, Wipro, and Michelin, all being top tier. He had a salary worth lakhs per month, but still, he left them to start something on his own.
Such a move may look absurd to anyone, quitting three top-tier jobs is not something someone decides without proper planning and evaluation. Sashank made that move and the result? Poshn, co-founded by Sashank himself, is now growing at a rate of 30% per month. Currently, Poshn manufactures and trades four commodities with a monthly turnover of INR 25 Crores.
From The Industrial Fumes Of Kanpur To Starting His Own Business
Completing his higher secondary education from Kanpur, his birthplace, Sashank graduated in mechanical engineering from BITS, Pilani in 2010. After graduation, he worked at Michelin, the Multinational Tyre manufacturing company as an employee. Working with Michelin for three years, Sashank opted for an MBA, for which he cleared CAT and joined IIM Calcutta, where he achieved his MBA degree.
After passing out from IIM, Sashank joined various companies like Uber and Wipro with more than average salaries, and during that time, the idea of initiating a startup struck his mind.
Before he could do any further research, the world witnessed the Covid-19 pandemic wave, due to which Sashank was confined to his home. That didn’t stop Sashank, and the will to initiate his own startup only strengthened. He partnered with one of his colleagues, Bhuvnesh Gupta, and after a series of meetings and preparations, ‘Poshn’- an agro-tech startup, was born.
‘Poshn’, A Product Of Creativity
Based in Delhi NCR, Poshn started out by trading in 4 agricultural commodities - rice, flour, edible oils, and sugar. After startup registration, a few months were spent doing homework before Poshn was ready for business. Finally, the commencement of Poshn’s regular operation started in June 2021.

Poshn tied up with large companies like Reliance Retail, and Lots Wholesale, along with a few standalone shops. Poshn's initial plan proved to be a success. The company is now growing at the rate of 30 percent every month.
Shashank Singh mentions his total sales in the first month of business, INR 80 Lacs.. And now (till April), Poshn’s turnover has reached about Rs 25 crore. It has been estimated that Poshn’s monthly turnover will reach INR 125 crores every month, an annual turnover of 1500 crores!
When asked about the company’s expansion, Sashank expressed the will to spread Poshn’s reach to different parts of India, but first, Poshn must strengthen its hold in Delhi NCR, and with the recruitment of additional staff, Poshn will finally gain recognition as a nation-wide company.
