Prepare For Aptitude Test For Placements In 3-Easy Steps!

The aptitude test for placement is the first of the many rounds you must clear to get placed in your dream company. Many believe clearing the aptitude test for jobs is easier than other rounds. And while this might be true to an extent, you will still need a proper strategy to stand out from the crowd. But remember, you have to remain vigilant on your placement journey because it won’t be as simple as it seems if you follow a passive approach.
Listed in this article are 3 simple steps/ strategies to help you ace the aptitude test for placement and become the center of envy of your competitors. So read on!

Step 1: The groundwork
If you think that not being well equipped in the Quants or the Verbal section means you won’t be able to crack the aptitude test for job interviews, well, that's simply not true. Because all you need to begin preparing for the aptitude test is proper groundwork.
But what does that entail? Have a look at the pointers below to find out:
- Leverage your campus placement cell: Talk to the members and get a list of companies that they are likely to pitch. Having this information beforehand and researching their recruitment requirements/ processes will give you an ‘early bird’ advantage.
- Leverage seniors/alumni: Talk to the seniors who have been through the process and ask them for advice. The tips and tricks you get from them will help you prepare for aptitude tests for placements.
- Online resources: You can take advantage of many online resources in your preparations. For example, you can list all available online aptitude tests and then attempt them to practice.
- Vedic/mental math: They play an important role in cracking aptitude tests. It is a good idea to work on your calculation and mental math skills every day. This will benefit you in the long run as well. What about doing some mental maths the next time you buy groceries?
- Grammar: Having a good grasp of English grammar and being informed about a multitude of topics are also important for the whole placement process. To do this, get into the habit of reading newspapers and good books. Be assured that 15 minutes of reading per day will yield amazing results.
- Have a plan: Last but not least, make a proper timetable for yourself if possible. You can follow this practice for all the rounds in the placement process.
Remember, you have already done a tremendous amount of work to get where you are. So jump to the next step and start preparing now!
Step 2: The three sections
An aptitude test for placements follows a general pattern comprising three sections, namely- QA, LR, and VA. Mentioned ahead are some of the most relevant topics under these sections. Cover these topics to prep for the test.

Numbers | LCM and HCF |
Work and Wages | Pipes and Cisterns |

Sentence Improvement | Synonyms |
Pronouns | Tenses |
Verbs and Adverbs | Prepositions |
Reading Comprehension | Article |
Conjunction | Grammar |
Sentence Re-arrangement | Theme Detection |
Logical Ability | |
Puzzles | Objective Reasoning |
Data Sufficiency | Sequence |
Selection Decision Tables | Logical Word Sequence |
Directional Sense | Coding Pattern |
Number Series | Pattern Recognition |
Bonus Tip- Go through the old test papers and figure out a pattern if possible. You will at least get an idea of which topics appear more frequently. Prepare for them first.
Step 3: Practice makes improvement
Once you have covered the syllabus, the next step is to start practicing. Begin with the exercises in the books, then move on to taking mocks, sectionals, and demo aptitude tests for placement. This will help you be prepared for D-Day and relieve you of stress and anxiety.
Tips:
- Whenever you face a new concept or a better trick, document it section-wise in a folder or a notebook.
- Apart from mocks and sectionals, solve as many sample papers as you can.
- Keep revising the fundamentals. The revision will not only help minimize stress levels but will also set you up for success in the aptitude tests for placements.
The secret ingredient to success in the aptitude test for placements
Since now you know what to study and how to study, couple your preparation with a perfect blend of self-belief, alertness, and a healthy mind. Remember what Mark Twain said- “Worry is like paying a debt you don't owe”. What we are trying to say is that- do not stress when it comes to preparing for aptitude tests for placements. We all know that placements are crucial, but all you need to do well is put in sincere efforts without stressing about your peers' performance or other things.
